Palm Sunday 2012

The news:
v A young black man is shot and killed because he was wearing a hoodie
v Gays and lesbians are kicked out of their family
v Our health care law may be declared unconstitutional and millions of people not able to get insurance

Are you part of the news? Does any of this affect you?
If Christ was here to tell us anything it is that everything that affects the least of us affects us all.  Jesus underwent suffering and death for the least of us and for the best of us. All are given forgiveness because of the passion of Christ. All of us are under the same grace together, regardless of our color, sexual orientation, income, education, place of origin—whatever divides us normally is today brought under one roof under the grace of a loving God.

My job is to pray for what divides us, what issues we each have that keep us from being together with lovingkindness. What has Lent taught you about yourself?  What ways have you left the fold of God’s love and lived only for yourself?

I am taking time this Holy week to pray for each of the parishioners of Holy Trinity.  On this card I invite you to help me know how to pray for you specifically.  This card will be used in my prayers and then ritually and privately put away.

May you have the sense of God’s grace this week of the passion of the Christ who was sent to take our sins from us.
